Description

This spirituality book discusses the importance of prayer and offers guidance on the best way to pray and get godly results.
There is power in prayer. Moses prayed and the sea parted because he believed God, and he believed in the power of prayer. Jesus prayed and five loaves of bread and two fish multiplied to feed 5,000 men. If you include women and children that number could have easily exceeded 15,000 people. That is God’s Power! In My Prayers and God’s Power, author L. Kirk Sykes shares how he believes in the power of prayer and insists many Christians have neglected their prayer life. He communicates that to be successful in your Christian walk, you need to know how to talk to God through prayer. The way you talk to God determines how He responds to you and how much He blesses you. In this insightful book, Bishop Sykes discusses the importance of prayer and provides insight on how to talk to God to receive godly results. He delivers the message that your prayers and God’s power will make a difference in your life and in the world.

CHAPTER 1
How Do I Talk to God?
Matthew 6:9–13 (NIV)
We live in a world where communication is a must. If you are going to be successful in school, in business, or in your personal relationships, you must know how to communicate.
You can take classes that will teach you how to speak.
• You can take speech classes in school.
• You can take classes on public speaking.
• You can take sign language classes that will give you the ability to communicate with the hearing impaired.
There are language classes that you can take to learn how to speak Spanish, French, Mandarin, Hausa, English, and virtually any language in the world. Communication is important in this world, but it is even more important in the spiritual world. Why? Because we are more spirit than we are body. The physical body will cease to exist, but the spirit of a person will live on forever.
For the Christian, the Bible tells us that we are disciples of Christ. What does that mean? What is a disciple anyway?
• A disciple is someone who has confessed a belief in Jesus.
• A disciple is a person who has made a conscious decision to be like Christ.
• A disciple is anybody who is willing to sit down and be taught.
• A disciple is disciplined. Without discipline, you will not accomplish much in life. Never forget that!
Jesus came to this earth to teach us how to live life on this side of heaven. If you want to be a leader, you must have the right attitude and a teachable spirit. Jesus was willing to teach those who were willing to not just hear the words that were coming out of His mouth but were eager to do what He was telling them to do.
I believe that many people have heard God speak to them, but because of life circumstances and situations, they never follow through with what they were told to do. To know the right thing to do and not do it is really a sin. A disciple of Christ will do what the teacher has told them and is telling them to do.
Matthew 5:1–2 (TEV) says, “Jesus saw the crowds and went up a hill, where he sat down. His disciples gathered around him, and he began to teach them.”
They were hungry for the word, and they were starving for encouragement and life change. My question to you is, are you hungry? Are you thirsty? If you are starving to change your position in life or starving to find out why you were created in the first place, you must have and demonstrate some discipline.
Changing the direction of your life always begins with you disciplining yourself. It’s great to receive coaching and encouragement from others, but you must have the mind and heart to control yourself. To challenge yourself. To hold yourself accountable. And it’s not really that difficult for you to do. Why? Because we are naturally disciplined in those areas that are important to us.
Think about it. You were disciplined or demonstrated some self-control in scho
