FOREWORD
I am extremely honoured to have this opportunity to write a foreword for the bookBasotho Medîcîna Pants – Merîana ya Dîmea tsa Basotho. Fïrs-hand experïence has augh me ha ïn addïon o food and beverages, plants are used ïn many dïeren ways by the Basotho people, with almost every plant being used in some way. These uses range from farm implements (for example, making sleighs for carrying the harvest home), buïdïng maerïas, irewood, musical instruments (such as the instrument known as “lesiba”), basketry, magic, garments (Gazania krebsîanatsîkîtane, for example, used for making skirts for young girls), beauty, and most importantly, for numerous medicinal purposes. Medicinal plants are indeed an extremely important part of the culture of the Basotho people, whether they reside in Lesotho or the Free State Province of South Africa.
This book, which focuses on medicinal plants only, contains a ransaon of par of he auhor’s book “Sesotho Plant and Animal Names and Plants used by the Basotho” (2010). As such, the book
