On other occasions, an insult is meant to be an insult. It is not meant to be disrespectful and scornful, but to provoke a playful banter. People often make up nicknames about us and tease us with insults as a way to gain our attention and connect with us.

Some people have clumsy methods of connecting with others, but even the nastiest of insults can be a sign of friendship. A common occurrence not only in my youth but even today is people calling me kleine which means shorty.
