N umbers are a unive rsal language that hel p us make sense of our seemingly chaotic w orld. Each single- digit number fro m 1 to 9 is said to hold its own specific ener , vibration or powe r within. Numerolo is mystic al mathematics, decoding the meaning of these numbers and assigning special significance to them. Some traditions work with numbers alo ne, whil e others also assign numerical value to let ters. No particula r belief syste m is necessary to explore the m yst eries of numer olo – it is as univ ersal as numbers themselv es.   Humankind has f ollowed this rich and multifacet ed tradition since the times of ancient civilisations in Ept, Baby lon, Greec e, Rome , Scandina via, In dia, China and Japan. Ever since I can remember , numbers and planets ha ve exerted a pow erful gr avita tional pull on me. I inherit ed a love of nu mbers from my f ather , and my curiosity has led me to seek know ledge of their my steries throughout m y li fe. As a teenager and ad ult, I’ve studied n umerolo , astrolo , tarot, meditation, y oga and all things m ysti cal. Over ye ars of building up a body of know ledge, a s various teachings col lided, it became clear to me how the numbers and planet s fitted together . In astrolo , planets loom lar ge in i mportance – informa tion about this is easily fo und – but how the pla nets also relate t o numbers is of ten over looked. The int ersection of numbers and plane ts makes perf ect se nse, as the pro perties attributed to p lanets mirror the properties attribute d to numbers. They ar e for ever mar ried in a my stical union, their kinship obvious.   While all numerolo sys tems fo cus on numbers, cosmic numerolo connects the numb ers to their companion plane ts. S uperstitions about numbers are v ery common. Man y people fe ar certain numbers, or believ e some to be l ucky . Ask any one about thei r fav ourite or le ast-like d numbers and they will usually be ab le to tell you immediat ely . They may or may not know why they f eel t his way , but fe el it they do. Sometimes these belief s are the result o f social conditioning; sometimes they’ re i nstinctive. In many cultures there exists – or exist ed – the idea that some n umbers are special, either in the positive or negativ e sense. Ancient Eptians especially lov ed 3 and 7 ; to them, 3 repr esented plurality and 7 perf ection . The Norse fa voure d 3 and 9: ther e are 3 roots at the base of Y gg drasil (the sacred ash tree ) and 9 worlds support ed by the tree. The Ce lts rever ed 3 as representing the trip le deity and 5 f or the elements of lif e, while the Chinese consid er 8 the number of w ealth and 4 the number of death.
9 A MYSTICAL UNI ON   ◐   LUCKY A ND UNLUCKY NUMBERS No number is as maligned as 1 3, whi ch becomes the single-digit number 4 wh en you add 1 + 3 . Many hotels and buildings hav e no thirteen th floor , or thirteenth ro om; some aeroplanes and trains e ven hav e no seat thirte en. Triskaidekaph obia, the phobia of 1 3, and t etraphobia, t he phobia of 4, are extreme v ersions of the f ear o f these numbers. The death card is numbe r 13 in the t arot deck and t his is no coincidence. Number s 4 and 13 ar e ruled by Uranus, the planet of upheav al, revo lution and alchem y. Personally , I believe 13 is wrongly maligned. Pe ople are oft en afraid o f change, assuming it will alwa ys b e difficult or to their de triment, and that’ s wh y they reject 13. Our r eaction to the transf ormatio nal nature of 13 sa ys m ore about us than it does a bout the number . All changes bring their ow n deaths, but carried along with each death is a major ble ssing: rebirth. The year 2020 was a perfe ct example of numb er 4 ener in motion. The ye ar was dominated b y a pandemic and socie ty went through hug e economic change and comp lete disrupt ion to our so-called ‘no rmal life ’. Conspiracy theories exploded and there was mass dea th, civil unrest, natural disaste rs, protes ts galore and plenty of political uphea val. The flipside was that people began to question th e status quo and carbon emissions were drastically r educed during lockd owns. Incredible scientific disco veries and in venti ons fo rged ahead, including new vaccines , the further de velopment o f plastic-eating enzymes, the presen ce of water co nfirmed on Mars, eve n a new type of   T ce ll recepto r in our blood that might be a potential univ ersal cancer treatm ent. ‘Sustainable ’ became the ideal consumer scenario, wit h cow-f ree dairy , recycled fabrics, lab- grown meat and car bon-negative v odka ‘made out of air’ being just a f ew ex amples of brilliant, r evolution ary ‘mad invent or’ Uranus and number 4– style thinking . There are times in y our lif e wh en you ’ll come across repetitive numbers, such as 888, 1111, 555 ... When this happens, I believe i t is the number speaking to y ou in an ampli fied way and wanting to dra w yo ur attention to its specific qualities.

Many people believ e that each number , when repeat ed, has a specific meaning attached. The important thing, though, is that when yo u notice these repe titive number s, ask yoursel f what the message is and listen to y our intuition f or the answer . Have y ou eve r had a special fe eling about a particular number , or the sense that a certain number doesn ’t quite gel ? That’s because numbers carry specific ener that will fe el either comfort able or challenging f or y ou. I’v e alway s fav oured the number 8. I was born on the eighth and f eel a natural affinity for it. This book was accept ed fo r publishing on the eighth, which made me extra happ y. There ’s just something about the way t here is no beginning and no end to the shape of 8 that I find comfo rting. I was obsessed with the concept o f infinity as a child, and it wasn ’t until my teenage y ears that I disco vered 8 symbolises infinity . Mea nwhil e, 7 makes me uncomfo rtable, maybe because to me it f eels u ncertain, wishy washy and, on a subconscious leve l, unclear . I had an extraordinarily difficult and confusing period of my life i n a number 7 house (based on the street numbe r) whi ch, strangely , I lived in f or se ven ye ars. Although the deep healing and insight gained fr om that time has been valuable, I am much more at ease in m y 5 place and life feels effortl ess in comparison. I am now le arning to lov e 7 and fo cus on its beautiful m ysti cal, creative and dreamy qualities. Challenges prese nt us with opportunities to learn and
