ABOUT THIS BOOK
Although the health benefits of participation in sports and exercise far outweigh the risks, sports injuries can occur in athletes of all ages and levels of experience and in many different activities. Overuse and sudden traumatic injuries often lead to short- and long-term consequences for athletes. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 2.6 million children 0–19 years of age are treated in the emergency department each year for sports- and recreation-related injuries. With the proper training, warm-up, and equipment, many of these injuries can be prevented. Many others can be treated and rehabilitated.
