Introduction
ASA 2021 FAR/AIM Series FAR/AIM • FAR for Flight Crew • FAR for AMT
ASA has been supplying the standard reference of the industry, the FAR/AIM series, for more than 75 years. The 2021 series continues to provide information directly from the Federal Aviation Regulations and the Aeronautical Information Manual. Each regulation Part is preceded by a table of contents. Changes since last year’s printing are identified in the Summary of Major Changes. In the AIM, changes are explained in lists at the beginning. It is recommended you familiarize yourself with all the changes to identify those that affect your aviation activities.
Changes affecting the regulations can take place daily; the AIM changes every 6 months. ASA tracks all changes and offers you two options for free Updates :

Pilots operating internationally should be familiar with Customs and Border Patrol regulations, which can be found at www.cbp.gov .
Although ASA is not a government agency, and we do not write the regulations or the AIM, we do work closely with the FAA. Summary of Major Changes Since the 2020 Book was Published

Part 3
• Establishes procedures to identify a certificate holder as a security threat by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
Part 13
• Adjusts civil penalty amounts that may be imposed for violations of certain DOT regulations.
Part 21
• Special Federal Aviation Regulation (SFAR) No. 118 provides regulatory relief for compliance with certain training, recent experience, testing, and checking requirements due to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak.
Part 65
• Establishes procedures to identify a certificate holder as a security threat by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
• Special Federal Aviation Regulation (SFAR) No. 118–1 provides regulatory relief for compliance with certain training, recent experience, testing, and checking requirements during the national emergency concerning the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) public health emergency.
Part 91
• Modifies the requirement that all aircraft equipped with Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast Out (ADS-B Out) must transmit at all times and provides an exception to ADS-B requirements.
• Extends the prohibition against certain flight operations in specified areas of the Sanaa Flight Information Region (FIR) (OYSC).
• Extends the prohibition against certain flight operations in the territory and airspace of Somalia below Flight Level (FL) 260.
• Requires air carriers to provide new-hire pilots with an opportunity to observe flight operations and become familiar with procedures before serving as a flightcrew member, and to provide leadership and command and mentoring training.
• Special Federal Aviation Regulation (SFAR) No. 118–1 provides regulatory relief for compliance with certain training, recent experience, testing, and checking requirements during the national emergency concerning the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) public health emergency.

• Special Federal Aviation Regulation (SFAR) No. 118–1 provides regulatory relief for compliance with certain training, recent experience, testing, and checking requirements during the national emergency concerning the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) public health emergency.
Part 135
• Allows helicopter air ambulance (HAA) operators to conduct instrument flight rules departure and approach procedures at airports and heliports that do not have an approved weather reporting source.
• Requires air carriers to provide new-hire pilots with an opportunity to observe flight operations and become familiar with procedures before serving as a flightcrew member, and to provide leadership and command and mentoring training.
