Description

One man’s reflections about the beauty, people, and hope that surrounds Kingston, Jamaica.
Larry Selig is a lover of Kingston, Jamaica, who is now in his sixth decade of life. In a book of recollections, he reflects on the beauty of this unique city lined with pretty trees and pathways, wooded areas, as well as stores and other fun attractions.
As Selig takes others through his memories of his former home mostly viewed while atop his bicycle, he shares colorful descriptions of his favorite spot on top of a hill where he writes, the local food bank, a long road that leads to a creek, a freshly-mowed golf course, the mall where he enjoys drinking coffee, and all the other places that inspire him to pick up his guitar and strum. Throughout his recollections, Selig provides a gentle reminder to others to slow down, look around, embrace the simple gifts that life brings, and live in the moment.
Pretty Trees on the Hill shares one man’s reflections about the beauty, people, and hope that surrounds Kingston, Jamaica.

Found a Spot in Kingston

My email address is seliglarry1@gmail.com . Let me know if you enjoy the book.
I’ve found a spot down here in Kingston, and it’s a great spot. I like it, and I believe it helps me. I feel wonderful there. I drink coffee, and I sit and stay there for a while; you know, I’m always thinking.
There’s a road that goes all the way to a river; I call it the creek. It’s nice up there too. I like the creek and the woods, and seeing the pretty trees along the walk is so cool. I ride my bike right to the end, which is a ways away from my spot. Still, I walk it, when I’m not riding my bike. It’s nice.
Well, I go to Kingston a lot. I ride everywhere in Kingston. The trails are good, and I ride my bike along them. I call Kingston a little town, but it’s more a village. There are pretty stores, though, and places you can go to—including a superstore, which I like. I go there sometimes to get things.

CHAPTER 2
I Used to Live in Kingston
I used to live in Kingston. It’s not far from where I live now, and I like going there. You never know; there may be a big thing there. Me, I get these ideas going through my brain. As for one I had recently, I asked the owners before I did more than I should. And when they gave me the OK to place a marker with the name of the spot I wanted to name, that’s what I did. I took my hammer and nails, and off I went. I thought that was cool. The golf field is right up top of the hill, so they cautioned me to be careful of that—and not get hit with a golf ball (laugh out loud).
There are many places you can go in Kingston and pathways you can take to get them. There’s a place where people go outside when weather is nice. They sing for the seniors or anyone who wants to come. I think that’s great.
