The Proposal

S LOWLY THE BRIDE WALKS DOWN the aisle in a pretty pink floral dress, as the Bridegroom stands eagerly at the altar waiting in anticipation for the wedding ceremony to begin, whereupon the Vicar is about to commence with the formalities, as the couple are now standing shoulder to shoulder, briefly looking into each other’s eyes, whilst exchanging a bashful and boyish smile.
Now before we begin could our guests please just stand for one moment, As everyone stood to their feet the Vicar continued, Now should anyone present know of any reason why this couple should not be joined in holy matrimony please speak now or forever hold your peace, just then everyone fell silent whilst looking round and about themselves, until a faint ringing could be heard getting louder and louder, increasing in sound, until the ringing became too much to bear.
As the Sun began to rise over an urban residential area, the morning clock goes off, sounding the alarm, Awe for fucks sake, wot time is it, its’ time to get up, yeah I know that, but wot time is it, you know what time it is, same as the day before, and the day before that, alrite’ alrite no need to get shirty, oh and don’t forget to take that package over to Mr Smith, yeh’ yeah I know, where did ya put it, I left it downstairs on the side table in the hallway, remember, coz he’s probably forgot about those when he moved out, Yeah, yeh alrite, I’ll sort it, Good now I just need to sort out some breakfast for Snowflake before pre-school, are you gettin’ up or wot or you just gonna lie there, I’m up babes, I’m up, Well go put the kettle on then soz I can sort her out Alrite Baye, but you know wot, I had a funny dream last nite’, Yeah yeah but not now Quill yeah, you can tell us later yeh’.
Just then Baye attends to Snowflake, whilst bathing and clothing her before feeding her some breakfast, and then getting her ready for the morning’s activities. Look babe’ I’ll call you later after I’ve dropped her off and bein’ down the shops ok. During the course of the day after Baye dropped off Snowflake at the nursery, she then made her way into the Town Centre, to do some light shopping, whereupon unexpectedly she bumped into a blast from the past.
Heya’ sorry to disturb you, but I’m sure I know you don’t I, do you remember me, from ages ago, Yes, Oh wow that’s so cool, as I wasn’t sure if you would, so how’s it going then, Its’ going fine, Oh gud’, but you look so different, I mean you’ve changed so much, Well that sounds a bit odd to say the least, Yeah but you ave’, Well I could say then same about you, as it looks like you’ve blossomed into some sort of a Supermodel.
Oh thanks that’s so nice coming from you, as I always looked up to you, so sorry but wait a minute as I’ve forgotten your name, Baye, its’ Baye, Oh yeah I got it now, Baye that’s it, but you were such a girl about town Baye, and so out there, and such a diva too, I mean when we met I really looked up to you, you were like a goddess, and so amazingly beautiful just like everything, so tell me what’s new with you Baye, Oh not much you know just the usual stuff, Yeah but like wot’, Like settling down and having a Baby for one.
Oh wot! You’re fuckin kiddin’ me right, no but I never imagined that you would settle down and get married and have a baby, Yeah well me neither, but I’m not exactly married, Oh okay well that would explain it, so who’s the lucky fella then, Well actually that would be telling, Fair enough Baye, So what about you, Like wot, Like your name, as I’ve also forgotten it as well, Oh sorry yeah its’ Kyra Banks you remember me don’t you, I mean how could you forget, so what did you have then Baye, baby I mean.
Oh right, well we had a little girl, she’s 3 now, Wow! That’s so amazing, but ain’t it funny how time flies, Yeah you can say that again, but what about you, Well what can I say, as it’s all been a bit of a hectic rollercoaster since my Mum died, Oh, oh I’m so sorry to hear that Kyra, Oh don’t I know it’s’ all a bit emotional just thinkin’ about it, but she did manage to leave us a pretty large chunk of money in our inheritance though, so I’m quite well off and solvent now, but look we should hook-up and go for a drink sometime as I frequently come down these sides, just let me know when you’re free to hang out Baye.
Later that same day, Quillian had arrived at the sheltered housing retirement complex, where Mr Smith is residing. Oh you made it then, I wasn’t sure if you was still coming, Yeh sorry bout’ that John, but I always get lost comin’ round ere’ as all the buildings look the same well come on in and I’ll put the kettle, yeah yeh’ sure no worries, So what’s this package then you bein harpin’ on about.
Oh just some old photos me and the Missus come across while cleaning out the cupboards, So how is the ole’ place then, Yeah its’ not too bad actually, the baby’s room is done up all nice now, Good, good that’s what I like to hear, so let’s ave’ a butchers at these photos you found then.
As Mr Smith opens the package, and for a brief moment in time he stares in silence, Oh, oh I see that’s me and my brother Jack, he use to luv’ playin a bit of footie even though our team ever had little chance of winning, anyway that before he got sick with liver cancer, but he use to luv’ a drink though, but I appreciate you bringin em’ round Quill, that’s really good of you, as I’d almost forgotten about these Just then Mr Smith became eerily quiet.
Look Quill I’m having a bit of a bad day and I really need someone to cheer me up, so tell me what’s new, What’s new well yeah funny you should ask me that, but I was thinkin’ about marriage, Marriage oh really, well so you should be, all these young’uns avin’ kids outta’ wedlock, its’ a cryin’ shame, good on ya’ sunshine, its’ about time you made a good honest woman outta’ your missus, Yeah I guess.
So when you plannin on proposin’ then, Oh I’m not sure about that yet, as I still need time to sort out an engagement ring out, Oh, oh right well you better get to it then, Look to be honest John I feel abit bad about you movin’ in ere’ and givin’ us the house, as you can ave’ it back at anytime, Give it back! Well where you gonna live then in a fuckin’ field.
Meanwhile in the shopping centre, Baye was feeling somewhat eager to get her daily shopping done and out of the way, as she somewhat hurriedly continued to chat Kyra. Well to be honest Kyra, I’m quite busy with my daughter these days, so I don’t get a lot of free time to socialise, Yeah but surely you can get a night off just to go for a drink, can’t your partner babysit for a while, while you’re out, Well yeah but.
Look I can see that you’re in a hurry to go, so let’s just swap numbers for now and then we can text or chat later to see when were both free and don’t worry about the money or nuthin’ Baye, as I can take care of everything, and don’t worry as I’ll sort you out, I just think it would be so good just to catch up with you and have a girlies night out, so you up for it or wot’, Yeah, yeh okay sure, but look I have to get going now, just text me later, and we’ll see how it goes, Good that’s great, it was so nice to see you, take care Baye.
As Kyra confidently walks off through the shopping mall, Baye is left feeling a bit mythed and deflated, as well as confused and baffled in trying to make sense and to process at what had just transpired, but not just in those past few moments, but also in the context of the past few years, that had now led to this awkward moment in time.
And yet she only had a short window of time with which to pull herself together, and to then continue getting the basic shopping done before returning to the day care nursery centre to pick up her child,
