Why I Write
2 cars on the road
Cruising down the highway on your way to life
At a comfortable speed seems like no stress, no strife
Riding kind of good trying to reach a certain height
Top down, seat back, no one knows your plight
That’s ok, because your plight is only for one night
Cause you have never had a bad day in your life
Traveling top speed as fast as a motorcycle
When out of nowhere comes another vehicle
Now this vehicle is not going quite as fast
But now that they see you…….how long is that going to last
For about a minute…you were the only one on the road
Or so you thought while listening to the cast from abroad
Now they can’t go as fast as you so you keep doing what it is your doing
If they’re looking to keep up, then they don’t know who it is they are pursuing
They’re not going where you’re going so you keep heading where you’re headed
They’re probably driving on fumes and may have to stop for some unleaded
Knowing that sooner or later you’ll reach your destination
Makes you want to drive that much faster without procrastination
You see procrastination is why you’re out here on the road with this other vehicle in the first place
Not doing your due-diligence and creating your own space
Knowing that you would be on the road with other people
Yet ahead of those people like the first horse over the steeple
Lends credence to itself as if to say you had a feeling
All the while driving, you’re wheeling and dealing
You see there is no room for two cars on the same road at the same time
Little do they know you will get better, like a bottle of fine wine
That matures in the fine oak barrel of life
While marinating all of its resources… trying to be the sharpest knife
In the end you see no one ahead of you
Just the lines in the road, and in the grass, the morning due
Some would call it smog
Some would call it fog
You left the other vehicle like a bump on the log
No surprise to you cause’, this is what you do
No surprise to them cause’, they know you were meant to
I’ll see you down the road one vehicle says, as you become a blur
You may or may not only time knows for sure
You see we were not meant to be out here in the same place, at the same time
This chance meeting has, allowed you to chime
In on what was supposed to be a time for me to shine
Yet I see you on the road as that fine yellow line
The one that separate’s traffic, going in both directions
Now is the time, for all of those reflections
To come to pass and put things into focus
We’re all the same but, some just have more hocus pocus
Two cars on the road of life is what we are
Separated by a dashing white line and yet apart, so far
Nevertheless, destiny assured
A Poem
What do you call words, coordinated to paint a picture?
Some would call it poetry and some, a theoretic scripture
It is a ballet of words, it is poetic
It is mind soothing, not just theoretic
It is to the soul, what music is to the ear
Poetry in many ways can help to endear
Like when you go to see, a Broadway Play
Its poetry, ballet, and music together, in a beautiful way
To bring together the artistic sciences, in a manner undeniable
To anyone paying attention, it has to be quite simply viable
Some may look upon it, as a tool through education
When in fact it is often used, in many a different application
It is a major influence, in the makeup of music
It has a gift of gab, depending on how you use it
You see poems and poetry can play a major part in your day
It’s what we take for granted while at work, and later while at play
On a beautiful summer day while sitting around in the park
Listening to enjoyable music, you’ll find its readings not very hard
On a beautiful summer day while enjoying yourself at the beach
Listening to enjoyable music, you’ll find its sightings not far out of reach
Any given day, is made up of nothing but poetry you see
From the birds singing loudly, to the squirrels, running through the tree
An essence of quality only found when you stop, look and listen
To what nature has to offer, including after the rain stops, wet streets
are truly a glisten
Poetry in motion, is what some have come to realize
Taking off the blinders and letting the world materialize
On your inner thoughts and inner being of what you have always known
To be right in front of your eyes and yet, never to have been shown
Then one day you see it loud and clear
Everything that’s been in front of you, is now what you hold dear
Because you have come to understand the meaning of a poem
That has always been near
A Pound of Flesh
I have not another pound of flesh to give
As it would take away from, the precious time that I have left to live
Who am I to give, what it is I don’t have
And who am I to say it to the point that makes you, want to laugh
I have given and given and given. Given until it hurts
Society can longer claim a debt against me, for what It’s worth
To have to carry a nation on my back, without regard
To have that same nation mock my existence makes it, ten times as hard
To see images of one’s self shot down, and lynched in the streets
These people no longer bother to hide themselves, behind white sheets
Now they carry badges and dress in blue
They say that they’re there to serve and protect you
Some perpetrators operate in the day and some when it’s dark outside
Some of these people don’t wear uniforms and they perpetuate violence as if on the other side
These people have hate in their hearts for what they don’t even know
They commit violent acts against my kind 24/7 as if it were a show
When it’s not theft against you, then it’s bearing false witness
That in itself is a sin, when you know there was no need for an eyewitness
I have no more pounds of flesh to give
As it would take away from the precious time that I have left to live
You call yourself my brother and yet from me you take
Taking from me?
Not a good brother does that move make
Spend your time helping instead of hurting would be the thing to do
Spend your time helping me as I would spend my time helping you
Stereotyping, is only part of the problem
Instead, do what you can to try and help them
Seeing people for who they are and not for what has been taught to you
May in fact be the very thing you should do
So although I may have no more pounds of flesh to give
People should understand that life is meant to live
Live out your fantasies in the best of ways
Not as if these were the last of days
Education, job, vacation and retirement
This is the way life was meant to have been spent
Not taking anything, from your so called brother
But instead, living life to the fullest as suggested by your mother
Violence in the streets is not the only thing we know
Chaos among us can never truly show
What it is to be on the top of the IQ chain
And yet never being able to win in this game
AHACCI
Always …….have a check coming in
Always …….be in a position to win
Never, never, never…….. allow anyone to say
That you’re not in a position to ball that day
That you’re not in a position to bail that hay
That a check is not worth its weight in gold
Because life is like poker…..you either build a good hand or you fold
Never let anyone tell you that a check is not worth the same as money
Checks, balances and money
