To my mother Gisele Wilson who has inspired my strength, compassion, love, and support all my life I love you.
To Russell Knetzger and his wife Barb Knetzger, thank you for your friendship, your sharing of the faith that God instilled within you, your knowledge, and your mentorship, I will forever be grateful. To my daughter Gisele York, you are a special and bright light that even during my darkest days my love for you pulls me through to freedom. To my brother George Wilson, your humbleness and quiet nature leaves so very much to be desired, and these things are what I love and treasure about you, the most dear brother. Never scared or afraid of hard work and commitment to any task set before you I love you.
To Dr. Gregory Bushman, I will say “Good Talks” we have had and thank you.
Most Lovingly, my Mama Dear “Ethel Herman” I want you to know how much your love and kindness has meant to me during this process and all my life. You are sister to my grandmother, who is the core of these writings that I present. I thank you so much for your love and presence in my life.
To my grandmother who I am named for what I love truly and with these words I pray they are conveyed to all who read this. Mordestia Black, you were a woman of much kindness and love to give. I treasure the memories that you left behind. Without them, I would be naked and light. Through you, I became capable and strong, but also not forgetting the love that I enjoyed. How precious of a gem you were. No one shined brightest than you.

I, Chief,
Leader of my people
With the buffalo at my side,
Stand on this rock so high
So you can truly hear this prayer.
Send the hand of this mighty warrior
To me, I beg of you.
Lighten your spirits,
And make the buffalo plentiful.
A chief’s prayer.
A L ifetime
A lifetime awaits;
It lies in state.
A lifetime is long;
Those who see it
Are of the strong.
A lifetime of love
The unknown lies in front of—
A lifetime of pain,
Yet nothing remains the same.
A lifetime of responsibility
Living for fun,
A lifetime of none.
A lifetime I’ve loved you,
Never you once showing me
That you knew.
A lifetime you will feel you have suffered
When I leave you,
Your heart uncovered.
T he L over
A lover awaited the other.
For them, time stood still,
Waiting forever on that desolate hill.
United as one heart
Is to part one soul,
Spending a lifetime longing for each other
Just to have and to hold.
Power so great tearing at one’s world
Destroying it now,
Like discarding that once-in-a-lifetime pearl
Looking for another,
One’s true lover,
Eternity’s puzzles,
Destiny’s troubles.
Clinging to a soul,
Having so tight of a hold
Could make one’s spirit
Tired and cold.
Blazing forth like blades of fire,
Slicing through the heart,
Clean and inspired,
Sharing a love,
That which is most desired.
A L over’s D ream C atcher
A shaman once said,
Be respectful to the dead.
I dream at night,
Of us together loving in the night.
Oh, my lover, I miss you so much,
I’m afraid to dream of your touch.
To hold you in my arms again,
To have you, walking hand in hand,
Journey together across our sacred land—
I dream of you tonight,
A dream surrounded by a lover’s light.
A shaman once said,
Be respectful to the dead.
Keep them within your heart instead.
One night, one lover missed another;
This is how their dream catcher was said.
I dream at night,
Of us loving till the dawn of a new first light.
Oh, my lover, I miss you so much;
I’m afraid to dream of your touch.
To hold you in my arms again,
To have you walking beside me hand in hand—
Journey together with me across our sacred land.
I dream of you tonight,
A dream surrounded by a lover’s light.
One night, one lover missed another;
This is how their dream catcher was said,
Keeping them in each other’s hearts each night before bed.

What is so special in a lover’s moon?
Could it be that beneath this moon,
As its light consumes us,
By nature we are as one,
Wife and groom?
A lover’s moon.
My mated one,
I will see you soon.
As the moon captures us
Beneath its light,
We will be thrust.
A lover’s moon
Is a special moon.
It lets us know
That we will explore our love
Very, very soon,
Beneath a lover’s moon,
The mating moon.
A P assionate H eart
A passionate heart,
A compassionate heart,
A gentle spirit.
Pain for another—
Can you not hear it?
If I could for you,
