Description

According to the ancients: “The heart also of the rash shall understand knowledge and the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly.” Self-confidence guarantees that anyone, especially children can accomplish whatever they set their minds to. Adlyn Hylton’s protagonist, Sydney Plinburn is just such an example. With help from his only parent, an active imagination and encouragement from his imaginary friend, Sydney grows into becoming a confident, compassionate individual whose desire for social involvement leads to his evolution as a leader. In The Stutterer, Sydney develops the confidence to express his thoughts despite his impediment. His renewed confidence and leadership empower him to be accepted for who he is. By Marilyn E. Beckford Retired teacher and Former Chapter Leader-UFT/NYC

Foreword
AS AN EX-TEACHER who is acquainted with the author of this brilliantly written work, overtime I came to recognize her knack for writing. With much experience of teaching from elementary through middle grades, I was able to spot her literary talent and through this current work, I have not been disappointed. For that matter, in this fabulous publication entitled, ‘The stutterer’, she used the backdrop of school and some troubled students to remind individuals that bullying is injurious and is a façade for some inner turmoil.
When one reads a book, one normally reads it for its positive qualities and influencing impressions. Indeed, if those virtues are there, then the reader might become ‘hooked to its contents and feel the need to re-read and share the book’s content. One may even go as far as to utilize its morals in personal ways as inspiration to one’s life. One such book is this publication called, ‘The Stutterer’ which is authored by Adlyn Hylton.
Adlyn is herself, a retired high school teacher of English and Business Mathematics. It is, however, the former of these subject areas that inspired her to acquisition a BA and MS.ED.
Collectively therefore, it can be said of her that these educational exposures well equipped her for this stunning masterpiece, embedded in the ‘Stutterer’. More so than in others of her publications, ‘The Stutterer’ enabled her the drive to use her commanding expertise in the production of this stellar piece of writing that is of educational significance.
The author uses its thoroughly thought-out and well written storyline to promote a theme of ‘the positive over negative behaviors in school’. In actuality, the bullying nature and character of the protagonist is tamed by the unassuming antagonist, through mysterious occurrences. Eventually, a highly encompassing life-changing moral emerges to show that ‘bullying does not pay. As the adage goes, "What goes around also comes around."
As those morals come to light, the plot becomes more gripping against the environment of early schooling, when students’ egos rage, and survival is a major goal. Thus, positive outcomes will be predicated upon the strength, courage and fitness of one’s mind, soul, and body.

Preface
How this book came into being
This book came into being when as a retired teacher (and I still volunteer sometimes in the classroom) I witnessed bullying being played out among the children that was left in my charge.
Their behaviors caught my attention as I was familiar with such activities from stories, I heard from someone that was negatively impacted by bullying. As a youngster I heard my big brother complaining to our mother that the students in his class always teased him when he spoke. My brother stutters. He was an unhappy student and eventually dropped out of school.
