Description

A big-hearted story about a little farm girl’s determination and resilience as she attempts to make her mom proud by growing her own pumpkins for Thanksgiving.
Six-year old Pidge lives on a dairy farm where she helps with small daily chores. One day her mom gives her a handful of pumpkin seeds presenting Pidge with an exciting new challenge. Will little Pidge be up for the big task of growing her own pumpkins? It requires a lot of hard work and determination to ready the hard soil, to clear the weeds, and to carry big water buckets every day in the hot sun. But Pidge has a clear goal: she will grow the biggest and best pumpkins for mom’s special horn of plenty at Thanksgiving. All her effort is rewarded with the daily joy of watching her plants grow and grow and grow! But one day something terrible happens to her beloved pumpkins. Pidge is devastated to find her pumpkin patch squashed by the wheels of a big truck. With the help of a kind stranger and words of wisdom from mom, Pidge finds the ambition to plant a new crop.
This charming story demonstrates how disappointment can be changed into hopeful determination. “Pidge’s Pocket Change” encourages its young readers to persevere in pursuit of their goals and how to find resilience when things don’t go as expected.

I dedicate this book to my Savior, Christ Jesus for giving me life and all that is good. I would also like to acknowledge my little brother Doug who so kindly helped me water the pumpkins during those hot summer months. As is obvious in this book my mother meant the world to me. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention my husband Brian, who is my best friend and cheerleader and who was the main motivator in bringing this book to publication. Lastly, but definitely not least, I dedicate this book to my incredibly talented daughter Bria Bisacca. She spent countless hours creating the colorful illustrations with a great deal of accuracy and liveliness.
Pidge lived on a small dairy farm with her father, mother, one sister and seven brothers. Everyone on the farm had chores to do from the youngest to the oldest. Pidge was six years old.
