#1

The Widow of Windsor, Queen Victoria, died on January 22, 1901. She had been married to Prince Albert for 21 years when he died from typhoid fever. She never recovered from his death, and she became a prisoner of her past.

#2

The Jewish way of grieving is a genius example of how to deal with the loss of a loved one. They have a predetermined number of days for different types of mourning, and they sit shiva for those days.

#3

The name you have now is a placeholder. Your real name will not be revealed until the day you die. God gives us a new name to signify a new chapter in our lives.

#4

God doesn’t just rename us; He puts His name on us. We are more than our circumstances. We are more than our stories. We are more than our explanations. We are more than our experiences.

#5

There are two types of change: first-order change, which is behavioral, and second-order change, which is conceptual. Second-order change is rewriting the narrative. Change your story, and you’ll change your life.

#6

Bo Eason, a nine-year-old boy, drew a self-portrait on a piece of paper. The caption beneath it was the best safety in the NFL. Bo Eason kept that contract for twenty years.

#7

The defining moment in the life of Bo Eason was when his father flipped the script on him and his high school coach, who didn’t think he was football material. He made the dog’s story his story, and he’s been telling it ever since.

#8

Everything in your past is preparation for something in your future. Your destiny is hidden in your history. Identifying your defining moments is one way to flip the script and win the day. Jesus disappointed just about everyone, but he never disappointed me.

#9

Your brain has no idea what your body is capable of, and your body has no idea what your brain is capable of. Once you connect those dots, all bets are off. Following Jesus is less about minding your p’s and q’s than it is about taking your cues from Christ.

#10

You can write two pages a day, and you’ll have a 200-page book in 100 days. All you have to do is win the one day in front of you, no matter what goal you go after.

#11

Your signature story is usually centered on a day that begins like any other day, but that day changes the rest of your life.

#12

The bigger the goal, the better the story you need to tell yourself to reach it. You can’t pull fairy tales out of thin air! It starts by setting a God-sized goal that stretches your faith. Then you go after that goal one mile, one run, and one day at a time.

#13

If you choose to go after a God-sized goal, you’ll have to work a little harder than everyone else. It will be harder than you hoped and take longer than you imagined. But if you keep walking in the right direction, you’ll get where you’re going sooner or later.

#14

The story of the Exodus is Israel’s signature story. It defined their identity as a free people. But when it came to getting Egypt out of Israel, it took 40 years to accomplish that task. We fall into the same trap. We don’t see the world as it is. We see the world as we are.

#15

The Israelites had to go through the 40 years in Egypt to realize their identity as God’s chosen people. You have to let God flip the script, and that means reading Scripture and interpreting your everyday experiences through the lens of Scripture.
