Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. Series of temperatures were taken at every 2 ft. In depth daily for a about a fortnight. Afterwards a series was taken once a month, as we had not time to read them oftener. In the diagram are shown the curves of temperature for six months, at one reading per month, compared with the curve of mean air temperature for the four weeks preceding each reading of the temperatures of the lake Ice.
