Total du passif. 38974—2 3 M215108URBAN MUNICIPALITIES ASTATISTICS OF HAVING POPULATION OF 1,000 TO 3,000 1920 PREFACE The following report is the third of a series dealing with the statistics of Urban Municipalities. The first report dealt with cities having a population of 10,000 and over; the second with those having a population of from 3,000 to 10,000; while the present gives similar information for municipalities having a population of 1,000 to 3,000 on December 31, 1920. As in the previous reports, schedules were sent from the Bureau to the secretaries and treasurers of municipalities and inthe concerned, the majority of cases a willing response was obtained. There are approximately 280 towns of between and population.1,000 3,000 The towns of Boucherville, Que.; and of Meaford, Parkhill and Prescott, Ont., did not make a return; while theinformation received from Disraeli, Que., was too meagre to be of service. In the case of the towns of Dalhousie, N.B., Lachute, Mont Joli, Pointe Claire, St. Alexis de la Grande Baie, St. Casimir, Ste. Marie de Saj^abec, Terrebonne and Waterloo, Que.; Almonte, Georgetown, Huntsville, Napanee, Norwich, Oakville, Point Edward and Port Dalhousie, Ont.; Cardston, Alta. and Cranbrook, B.C., officials undertook to supply the return but were unable to do so before it was necessary to close the report. The Bureau received no reply from the towns of Amos, Baie St. Paul, East Broughton Lac au Saumon, L'Assomption, Rigaud and Roberval, Que.; Alexandria, Clinton, New Hamburg, and Palmerston, Ont.; Souris, Man.; Melfort, Sask., and Lacombe, Alta. The populations of the municipalities reported herein being smaller than those dealt with in the previous reports, the municipal activities are not so extensively classified. As will be seen from the analytical index there are six tables iri the report, the first giving a summary by provinces of the principal terms of interest; the second showing in detail the general statistics; the third comprising statistics of waterworks and fire departments; the fourth showing receipts; the fifth expenditures; and the sixth table dealing with assets and liabilities. Le premier d'entre eux était consacréaux cités ayant une population de habitants et plus; le second avait pour10,000 objet les groupements urbains ayant une population de à habitants,3,000 10,000 tandis que celui-ci présente des informations d'une nature similaire, se rapportant aux municipalités de à habitants, ce bilan étant établi à la date1,000 3,000 du 31 décembre 1920. Ainsi qu'on l'avait fait précédemment, des questionnaires ont été envoyés . par le Bureau Fédéral de la Statistique aux secrétaires et trésoriers des munici- palités dont il s'agit, lesquels ont presque tous fourni avec empressement les informations demandées. Il existe environ 280 villes de 1,000 à 3,000 habitants. Les villes de Boucherville, P.Q., Meaford, Parkhill et Prescott, Ont., n'ont pas envoyé de rapport; les données reçues de Disraeli, P.Q., étant insuffisantes ont dû être laissées fonctionnaires,de côté. Tout naturellement, les municipalités figurant à ce rapport étant de moindre importance, l'investigation fut moins étendue que dans le cas des cités plus populeuses. Ainsi qu'on le verra dans l'index analytique, ce rapport se compose essentiellement de six tableaux, dont le premier résume, par provinces, les caractéristiques essentielles de chaque municipalité; le second présente en détail les statistiques générales; le troisième est consacré aux services de l'aqueduc cinquièmeet des incendies; le quatrième indique les recettes, le les dépenses; enfin, le sixième présente bilanle par actif et passif.
